    Pretty nice, huh?

Now in just a moment you’ll learn how to build a resume that puts you in the front-end of the long line of job seekers.

    1. Choose the Best UI Developer Resume Format

Navigating a well-written resume should be as easy to read as HTML.

First impressions matter and the recruiter will base their selection process on a very specific set of specifications. And the first one is always… formatting.

    So—

In order to make your UI developer resume shine, here are the best resume format tips that you can use:

    UI Developer Resume Format

As a designer, you know that a bad GUI is worse than a good TUI, so do the best you can to make your resume readable, clean and pleasing to the eye.

Expert Tip: You can use a simple resume template to make sure you have all the sections you need and an immaculate format that makes your resume easy to navigate and scan through.

    2. Start With a Persuasive Resume Summary or Objective

While a portfolio showcases your skills in action, the professional profile section of a resume has to sell YOU as the ideal package—the best person for the job.

You can do this in a short paragraph, and you’re just a quick scroll away from finding out how.

First things first, however. You have to know if you’re writing a resume summary or objective.

    The idea is simple—

Got experience? Write a resume summary statement.

Fresher? Shoot for a resume objective statement

Just below you will find UI developer resume examples that will clearly show the difference. But before we explore them, let’s go over the steps of writing a summary and objective.

    Include:

    • One or two power adjectives, like: passionate, methodical, competent, dedicated, etc.
    • “UI developer”
    • Next, state your level of experience, so: with 3+ years of experience, with internship experience, etc.
    • What you can offer (or your previous responsibilities).
    • Your most prominent accomplishment.

Let’s take a look at these two resume profile examples:

UI Developer Resume (2 Years Experience and Up) Sample Summary

    Good Example
Self-motivated UI developer with 8+ years of experience performing complete website life cycle functions from conception to final release to users including Design, Implementation, Testing, Deployment and Maintenance. Increased user satisfaction by 45% by completely redeveloping a ticketing platform. Decreased bounce rate (-37%) for online clothing store with website redesign. Seeking an opportunity to apply my UI skills and experience to create and update UI as per Codevelop’s needs and requirements.
    Bad Example
Hard-working UI developer with extensive experience developing new webpages and mobile apps based on customer needs. Worked with CSS, HTML, JavaScript and jQuery. Ready for a new career opportunity.

The first example highlights the candidate’s professional experience and skills. You can also see what really pops there—numbers.

Quantitative accomplishments are a must-have. State a fact and back it up with evidence, which will give the recruiter an idea of how well you are able to perform. Career experts all over the world agree that numbers, percentages and dollar signs draw far more attention than vague statements.

Now, let’s see a sample resume objective.

    Entry-Level UI Developer Resume Objective

    Good Example
Energetic 4.0 GPA Graphic Design graduate from the University of Washington, Dean’s List student, looking for a full-time career opportunity to apply design and programming knowledge at Buzz. During an internship program, designed and developed more than 10 children's education mobile apps using CSS3/HTML5/JS/PHP/Wordpress CMS.
    Bad Example
Fresh Graphic Design graduate eager to pursue a full-time career. No professional experience yet, however very excited to start working as a UI developer. I did an internship program, where I worked mainly on designing mobile apps for clients.

Let’s run the second example through Node.js Inspector.

    Bug #1: No numbers.

    Bug #2: Vague.

    Bug #3: First-person statement.

    Eesh.

Finding measurable achievements can be hard for a graduate student or entry-level candidate, however, it’s not impossible. Here are some ideas:

    1. List your GPA (but only if it’s above 3.7).
    2. How many projects have you worked on?
    3. How many internships did you do?
    4. Have you led a group of people during a project? How big was your team?

These are just some things to think about when writing your resume objective. Maybe you have some other special superpower that you want to bring attention to?

Also, try not using fist-person narrative in your summary or objective, so avoid, if possible, the words I, my, me, etc.

    You know the drill.

Expert Hint: When writing your professional summary, don’t use cliché resume buzzwords, like: hard-working, skillful, creative, or responsible. They will turn your application to a poor-quality resume that won’t even get read.

    3. Polish Your Job Description and Skills Section

Your web designs have to match the wireframe as closely as possible.

The same way, your UI developer resume has to match the job description.

    So—

Make sure you use resume keywords.

    Follow these simple steps:

    1. Read the job ad.
    2. Highlight the required skills and qualifications—these are your keywords.
    3. Plug them in your work history section.

    So, basically—

If the job advertisement is calling for: project management skills, fluent in JSP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS, passionate about creating cutting-edge user-friendly UI designs, experience with ReactJS.

In this case, a perfect resume job description should look like this:

    • Experienced in React JS and working with React Flux architecture.

    • Worked with existing applications to convert static layouts into responsive layouts for various devices.

Key Achievement: Designed, developed and launched website for a multinational retailer, which decreased bounce rate by 37%.

What you don’t want to do is:

    Bad Example

    Senior UI Developer

    Hacklab

    2017-2020

    • Directed a redesign project from concept to completion.
    • Integrated responsive UI designs into PHP framework for web and mobile.
    • Led the development of websites.
    • Worked towards creating enhancements to optimize user experience.

    404.

See how that just doesn’t work?

Targeting your resume with the use of keywords will significantly increase your chances of getting that interview. It's what helps an ATS resume pass those soulless automated scans so that it can actually reach a human.

    But—

Apart from passing the ATS scan, you want to impress the recruiter, which is why your skills for a resume have to pass the user (recruiter) experience test.

You want to really highlight your technical skills on your UI developer resume, so when listing them, make sure to put them at the top.

For reference, here are some of the most important ones that you may want to include in your application:

    UI Developer Resume Skills

    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • CMS
    • HTML
    • CSS
    • JavaScript
    • AJAX

    • Creativity
    • Teamwork
    • Time management
    • Project management
    • Problem-solving skills
    • Detail-oriented
    • Capacity to work under pressure

Expert Hint: Skilled project managers are in demand, and you can supercharge your skills with a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, which will help you move up the latter in your career.

    • Location
    • Year of graduation
    • GPA (only if above 3.7)
    • Relevant coursework
