1. Go With the Right IT Technician Resume Format

There’s that random employee tasked with screening incoming resumes for the hiring manager. She’s opening each file, scrolling around, and dropping the OK ones onto the network drive.

• Use the reverse-chronological resume format—it’s what IT hiring managers expect. This means listing your most recent experience first, followed by older entries. 
• Go with a simple resume font like Calibri, Arial, or Book Antiqua in 11–12 pt. Just look at any (modern!) piece of software: if your resume font looks like the typeface used there, you’re fine. Just like a decent interface, your resume needs to be easy to read. 
• Leave all the margins of your resume at one inch and don’t crowd the page. Again, think a good, pleasant interface: white space to guide the eye, clearly outlined sections and functions, fully intuitive. 
• Submit a one-page resume. IT Technicians don’t usually need more, unless they remember working on external, dial-up 56K modems.
• Include at least these sections: Resume header, Profile, Experience, Education, and Skills. Follow up with a couple of extra sections if applicable, such as your certifications or foreign languages (more on that later). 

You know the score when it comes to PDF versus *.docx for sharing resumes and other documents. But keep in mind that some employers use ATSs (Applicant Tracking Systems) that don’t parse PDF very well. So always check for file-type preferences in the job ad when writing an ATS resume.
