Now, let’s write that resume for customer service managers that will land your dream job.

1. Use the Best Customer Service Manager Resume Format

You should know how important first impressions are. When you start your relationship with a customer on the wrong note, it’s hard to win them over.

The same goes for hiring managers. It literally takes seconds for them to decide to pass or not. That’s why your resume needs to stand out and make you proud, just like your KPI dashboard.

How to do that? Start with selecting the best formatting for your resume

Customer Service Manager Resume Format

I bet you always wished that every customer would send their tickets with all necessary details and in a proper format.

Now it’s your turn to shine. Save your resume as a PDF. That’s the most common format that can be opened on any device, and it makes for an ATS-friendly resume.

2. Create a Perfect Customer Service Manager Resume Summary or Objective

You know how important the first step is in the customer onboarding process, right? You need to show the customer what your product is capable of, but without making them feel overwhelmed.

The same goes for your customer service manager resume summary. It’s the first thing the hiring manager will actually read.

If you want to write a great resume summary, be sure to highlight your key skills and accomplishments. Don't forget to align it with the job description you are applying for.

Here’s how to write your resume profile

  • Start with the adjective, such as hard-working, efficient, or organized. These action words will be helpful.
  • Include the job title you are applying for. It’ll feel more personalized.
  • Show yours years of experience.
  • Explain how can you help and improve the company.
  • Share your most significant achievement. Don’t be shy about it.
  • Don’t forget to proofread at the end.

Check these customer service manager summary examples for reference:

Customer Service Manager Resume Summary—Example

Good Example
Highly organized customer service manager with more than 5 years of experience managing a team and assisting customers. Looking to assist Paperwork, Inc in growing its customer service team and reducing its churn rate. At Profitbit, tripled the customer service team, while increasing employee satisfaction to 95%. Also, introduced a dedicated plan and reduced the churn rate by 11%.
Bad Example
Energetic and organized customer service manager. Experienced in managing a team, recruitment, and fighting churn. Looking for a challenging job in a customer-centric organization.

Do you see the difference?

The bad example almost looks like an autoresponder a customer gets when they create a ticket. There’s no personalization at all, and you can send it to every company you are applying to.

On the contrary, the good one not only matches the keywords from the job ad, but also shows how qualified you are for the job.

What if you have no customer service manager jobs experience?

While you need to have some experience to become a manager, it’s okay to be a career changer.

Your customer service manager resume should start with a resume objective instead of a resume summary in such a scenario.

It’s similar to entry-level resumes. You focus on your transferable skills and achievements instead of your actual achievements in a given position. Like in the examples below:

Expert Hint: If you’ve never been a manager before, there are a lot of challenges first-time managers face. Adjusting to managing people, displaying authority, or coaching and developing others are only a few examples of challenges you may deal with as a first-time manager.

Customer Service Manager Resume Objective—Example

Good Example
People-oriented customer service representative with 3+ years of experience. Skilled in technical support and building relationships. Ready to step up and lead the customer service team at Paperwork, Inc. Regularly scored over 97% in customer satisfaction surveys. Won Front-Line Pro of the Year award in 2020.
Bad Example
Experienced customer service representative looking to develop professionally. Great at handling customer queries. Wishes to join the company as a customer service manager.

Again, the difference is quite obvious. The first example will land you a job. The second will land you in the “NO” pile.

Expert Hint: If you're stuck and unsure what to write, finish this section at the end. It’ll be much easier once you have written down all your experience and skills.

3. Write the Best Customer Service Manager Job Description and Skills Sections

Your work experience is a crucial part of your customer service manager resume. This is where all HR managers will look to see if you qualify for the job.

That's why you need to show your very best. Just like the time you won over that churned customer that everyone already gave up on.

Follow this step-by-step process and learn how to write a job description for a customer service manager:

  • Read the job ad thoroughly.
  • List your achievements, not duties.
  • Spot the job keywords and tailor your resume accordingly.
  • Use power words to describe your successes.
  • Show numbers. They are a great confirmation of your accomplishments.
  • Keep it tight. Don’t add more than 6 bullets.

Repeat this process for each job you held, and you’ll have a stellar work experience section on your resume in no time.

Key Qualifications & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the team of customer service representatives
  • Recruited a dozen of customer service representatives
  • Worked on reducing churn rate
  • Implemented a rewards program for employees
  • Added new customer service channels

Which one would you hire?

The first one is precisely what HR managers want. It shows not only what your duties were but, more importantly, it’s showing how impactful you were.

The second one… exists.

If you’re writing a resume with no experience as a customer service manager, you can use the same advice as above. Focus on your skills and achievements that can be beneficial in a new position.

Here’s a no experience customer service manager job description sample you may use:

Good Example

Customer Service Representative

Sysnetic, Scranton, PA

May 2016–December 2020

Key Qualifications & Responsibilities

  • Provided outstanding customer service across all customer service channels - phone, email, chat, and social media
  • Resolved 40+ customer service inquiries daily with a 97% customer satisfaction rate
  • Offered customer service bilingually in English and Spanish
  • Kept detailed and up-to-date customer records in Pipedrive CRM

While we’re on the topic of work experience, you shouldn’t forget about adding skills to your resume.

If you’re wondering what skills to put on your resume, just go back to the job ad and reread it. See what they are looking for and match it with what you can do.

If you need some inspiration, we’ve created a list of skills for a customer service manager.

Customer Service Manager Resume Skills

Expert Hint: Don’t overcrowd the skills list. List only relevant skills. If you are a great juggler or can lick your elbow (that’s impressive by the way) that’s cool, but you don’t have to brag about it on your resume.

The ResumeLab builder is more than looks. Get specific content to boost your chances of getting the job. Add job descriptions, bullet points, and skills. Easy. Improve your resume in our resume builder now.

4. Show Your Education Section Like a Pro

While you may have eternal love for your alma mater, it’s not that important for the hiring manager in most cases.

I don’t mean you should skip your resume education section. It’s okay to limit it to essential information, such as college name, date, location, and degree.

After all, you are applying for a management position. Your work experience is far more significant.

Here’s how it should look:

Customer Service Manager Resume Examples—Education

Good Example

Education

B.A. in Business Administration

Pennsylvania State University

2011–2015

Plain and simple. That's all you need to put here unless you have very relevant academic achievements.

5. Add Extra Sections To Make Your Customer Service Manager Resume Shine

There is a chance there are equally qualified people for the job. Their KPIs are green, they manage a team, and they can turn an angry customer into a loyal fan. Just like you.

But there’s a way to differentiate yourself. A method that many skip or do it poorly.

We call them extra sections.

There, you can add any relevant certifications and awards, your hobbies and interests, any volunteering you did, or additional languages you may know.

If you have any good professional references, that’s also the place you should put them.

It’s a good practice to add one or two such sections. But each of them needs to be pertinent to the job description.

If you collect stamps, you don’t necessarily need to mention it in your customer service manager resume.

On the other hand, if you have a known social profile where you share your knowledge or are an admin in a Facebook group where you help people, definitely go for it.

Check the example below for inspiration:

Good Example

Awards

  • 2020, Front-Line Pro of the Year, Sysnetic

Languages

  • English—Native
  • Spanish—Advanced

Interests

  • Admin of Facebook group “Keeping fish for beginners” with over 13 000 members, where I moderate the discussion and help members.

Expert Hint: U.S. Census Bureau data shows that the most widely-spoken foreign languages in the U.S. are Spanish, Chinese, French, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. Being able to communicate in any of these will be a big plus for most customer service manager roles.

Speaking of extra sections, there’s one more thing you can do to make your resume stand out.

Send it along with a perfectly crafted customer service cover letter.

This way, you’ll be able to show how passionate about work you are. It’s also a great place to elaborate on your accomplishments and plans for the new job.
