Dear John,
Being an account manager with 5+ years of experience in managing $4m+ worth of digital marketing accounts, I was thrilled to spot an opening at an agency as esteemed as yours. I believe my disposition for going above and beyond to retain clients (+34% customer retention in 2020) and Spanish skills will help MEDIAtors realize your goals of expanding onto the Central & Latin American markets set out in your 2025 Vision.
In my current role as a key account manager at Brandsters, I am entrusted with the most important accounts, grossing $4m+ in revenue each year. I mediate a fully one-stop-shop service providing online and offline advertising, analytics, outreach and presence. Currently, the biggest account there is a company with a range of alcohol brands. For this client, we were able to outperform the 3xROAS goal on a new product launch by 150%, ending up with almost 7.5xROAS. After market and competition research, I have expanded our service catalog to include auxiliary services (i.e. social media moderation, Messenger help lines, etc.) to our clients. This, combined with a more personal and prepared approach towards each client, increased our customer retention by 34% from 2019 to 2020. After implementing improvements to the sales process and lead generation, my accounts’ annual revenue increased 12% (2018).
Furthermore, my competencies slot into your expectations perfectly. According to your 2025 Vision, Central & Latin Americas are your main avenue of expansion, and in addition to all the work experience, I speak fluent Spanish and intermediate Portuguese, and hold a BA in Spanish Studies. I believe my proven track record and language skills make me an ideal candidate to take your 2025 Vision forward.
When would be a good time to schedule a call or an interview for us to discuss how we can increase your customer retention in these uncertain times?
Best Regards,
Larry D. Taylor

Let’s see how to write your own cover letter.
When facing clients half the day, and making the numbers work the other half, you’re going to need to pay attention to detail. Your employer will not accept sloppiness or mistakes. On the job, or in the cover letter.
Start with a professional business cover letter format:
Now let’s decide what things to include in your cover letter.
You know how to address a business letter, right? Make sure all the data matches your resume header. Beneath, list the city and date the letter was written. Below, enter the details of the person you’re addressing the letter to. If you don’t know who you’re writing to, use LinkedIn, or just call them up.
Make sure you have these details down:
[ Your Full Name]
[ Your Job Title ] (Optional)
[ Address ]
[ Phone Number ]
[ Email Address ]
[ LinkedIn Profile ] (Optional)
[ City and Date ]
[ Hiring Manager’s Full Name ]
[ Hiring Manager’s Position ]
[ Company Name ]
[ Company Street Address ]
[ City and Zip Code ]
If you’re signing key accounts, you know how to get to the point quickly. Starting your cover letter, introduce yourself right away, list your years of experience and past position, and identify the position you’re applying for.
You don’t have much time to grab people’s attention—so give them a good reason to keep on reading, like listing one or two of the key requirements of the job and supplying a metric that proves your aptitude in this branch. Think achievements, awards, numbers.
Compare against this template:
Dear [Hiring Manager’s Name],
Being an Account Manager with [X]+ years of experience and a proven track record in [Achievement 1 with metric], I was excited to spot an opening at your company. Having [Achievement 2 with metric], and having sizable experience in [Skill / Achievement 3 with metric], I believe I will make a worthwhile addition to them [Target Employer Name] team and achieve [something important to the employer].

Honestly, they don’t really care what you can do. They only care how well you can do it. This is why every single one of 2-3 achievements you’re going to discuss in the 120 words of your middle paragraph will be backed up with a metric or something of that sort.
Counting out lists of things you have done and know how to do is redundant in the age of the internet, when everyone can find out how to do anything. Show them how well you can do it and let them start spending the money you’re going to make for them today, in their head.

You state that your new account manager must [refer to the requirements of the job]. As a [Previous Position Title] at [Name of Your Most Recent Company], I have acquired sizable experience in [refer to the requirements of the job], resulting in [award/achievement/statistic/commendation/success]. I also have [award/achievement/statistic/commendation], which allowed the company to [result]. I believe I have the experience necessary to help [Target Company Name] achieve [the goals or values important to your new employer].
Expert Hint: Do you need a cover letter? According to HR statistics, almost 50% of hiring managers still expect to see them attached to the resume.
The account manager needs to play both sides—they need to see it from their client’s perspective, but still know everything about his own business and toe the line. You need intimate knowledge of the business to strike the best deals.
Start today. Research the business thoroughly and show that you have a genuine connection and interest in working there. Geneal cover letters won’t cut it.
Fill in the [blanks]:
Joining [Target Organization Name] would be not only a perfect opportunity for me to grow by benefiting from your know-how and [what they do], but also an instant and seamless culture-fit that would benefit everyone as [something you found out about their values] is something that is important to me personally.
Expert Hint: In the Marketing Agency Growth Report, 12% of agencies report their greatest struggle to be retaining employees. Show the right culture-fit, researching on LinkedIn and the company website.
Are you a deal-maker or a deal-breaker? Don’t pussyfoot around with lukewarm closers. Ask them to talk to you, on the phone or in an interview, and give them a good reason to want to talk to you.
We suggest to not hold back your strongest achievement or talking point all the way up to here—just in case you lose them earlier. The best account manager cover letters mention a huge achievement in passing, and then tease more information about it in this closer.
Strike the right balance between decisive and humble.
Close your cover letter professionally.
