Production and factory workers are responsible for manufacturing products from raw materials and prefabs, as well as meeting product quality standards. They also operate factory machines and vehicles, calibrate and maintain equipment, and follow standards and safety procedures.

Here’s how to write a flawless worker resume:

    1. Choose a Streamlined Worker Resume Format

As a worker, you fully understand that organizing and streamlining every process is the most efficient route. This is true not only in manufacturing, but also when writing your worker resume.

When you optimize your resume layout straight away, you will have a much easier time afterward. Here is how to set the best resume format.

Rules for a great registered nurse resume format:

Now that everything is set up, let’s push the start button and get to work.

    2. Craft a Worker Resume Summary or Objective

Wondering how to start a resume? With a striking resume profile

With it, you’re putting your best foot forward right from the start. What should it include? Your best achievement, a couple of relevant skills and a statement of how you can help the company.

Pay special attention to the fact that numbers should back your work achievement. Just like on a production line. You’re not manufacturing just a metal pipe. It has set density, length, thickness etc.

Here’s how to write a factory worker resume summary:

    Worker Resume Sample—Summary

    Good Example

Efficient factory worker with 5+ years of hands-on experience in assembly line production. Successfully exceeded production quota by up to 20% monthly. Proficient in operating metal press machinery and equipment. Possess strong organizational skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Seeking to leverage my experience and skills to contribute to the success of TD Metal.

    Bad Example

Hard-working factory worker experienced in manufacturing processes. Proven track record of exceeding production quota. Proficient in operating machinery. Team-player. Looking for work at your company.

The difference is clear as day. Even though both of these candidates are one and the same, the first example shows quantified data and presents their skills much better. They also refer to the company by name, which shows they are not making a general resume, but rather a targeted resume application.

But what if you don’t have much worker job experience? If that’s the case, use a resume objective instead of a summary. Here’s how:

    Worker Resume Objective—Example

    Good Example

Resourceful and professional seeking a job as a factory worker at TD Metal. Looking to contribute my skills as certified forklift operator and my technical abilities. Eager to aid in completing manufacturing processes in as efficient manner.

    Bad Example

Hard-working recent high school graduate looking for an entry level factory position. I’m a tech-savvy quick learner eager to start working immediately.

Which one of these two candidates would you recruit? Of course, the first one. Despite no relevant experience or work achievements, this candidate presented applicable skill in forklift operation, technical skills and stated a clear goal they wish to achieve at the company.

Meanwhile, the second candidate will likely abandon ship at the very first opportunity.

Expert Hint: Before you start writing your resume profile, finish the rest of your resume. This section is like a material data sheet. It’s a shortened version of everything that goes into your resume.

    3. Write an Industrial-Grade Worker Job Description for a Resume

Not all factory workers are the same. There are thousands of types of production facilities one can specialize in. If you’re wondering which one is best for you, we recommend you check the US labor statistics for production workers.

But no matter your specialization, the goal of the work experience resume section is the same. To show your employer, you’re the best candidate out there.

To show your job experience on a resume, follow these steps:

    1. Read the job ad. In it, locate resume skills desired by the employer.
    2. Make a list of your worker resume skills based on that.
    3. Create bullet points to present those skills. Use the accomplishment statements formula for that.
    4. Add numbers to back up your claims.

Take a look at the examples below:

    Factory Worker Resume Sample—Job Description

    Good Example

    Production Worker

    Metal ICA, San Antonio, TX

    January 2019–Present

    • Exceeded production quota by up to 20% monthly.
    • Maintained a safety record of zero lost-time incidents for three consecutive years.
    • Conducted daily safety checks and calibrations on 15 different machines.
    • Trained over 20 new employees in efficient production machine operation.
    • Reduced material waste by 12% by implementing a new process for monitoring and tracking inventory levels.
    • Streamlined the QC documentation process, resulting in quickening the QC process by 45%.
    Bad Example

    Production Worker

    Metal ICA

    • Operated machinery and equipment to produce various products according to established procedures and quality standards.
    • Conducted quality control checks to ensure products met established specifications.
    • Followed established production schedules to ensure timely completion of orders.
    • Maintained equipment and machinery to ensure it operated safely and efficiently.
    • Reported any issues or concerns with equipment, machinery, or production processes to the supervisor.

This example perfectly encapsulates the importance of quantifiers. In the second example, we can see the applicant did their job. They listed their job duties. But this is redundant. The employer expects you to do all that. You’re here to show you can do it better than everyone else.

Expert Hint: Many factory worker jobs are great as an entry point into the job market. If you’re one of the people about to enter it, make sure you know how to write a great resume with no experience. You can also read this article for tips on writing a general production worker resume.

    4. Polish your Resume Education Section

A worker resume doesn’t require higher education. But that doesn’t mean your resume education section doesn’t matter. You can still showcase relevant skills here to boost your chances of getting hired. So show your school, graduation date, and, if applicable,

    Here’s how:

    Worker Resume Sample—Education Section

    Good Example

San Marcos High School, San Marcos, TX

    Graduated in 2017

    • Member of the school powerlifting club.

How does powerlifting help our candidate? It shows his athleticism, strength, and constitution. All of which are highly relevant characteristics for a factory worker job.

    5. Manufacture the Perfect Worker Resume Skills Section

Factories need skilled workers like fish need water. After all, you can’t just let a bunch of untrained people run wild at a place full of dangerous machinery, and sharp equipment. So, to succeed in your job search, you need to include a tailored skill section on your worker’s resume.

Pay special attention to what’s written in the job ad. What do they need? Someone who can operate power tools? Maybe you need to be a team-worker? Those types of resume keywords will guide you when writing your worker resume.

One last thing. Don’t stack too many skills. 5-10 is an optimal range.

Including a list of skills on a resume allows you to highlight specific competencies that may or may not be evident from your work experience. For example, you’re an RN with solid leadership skills but haven’t had the opportunity to hold a supervisory role. You can still highlight this skill on your resume to show potential employers that you have the ability to lead and manage teams.

Here’s a list of many skills that would look good on a registered nurse resume. You can use it for reference when writing your own.

    Worker Skills for Resume

    • Quality Assurance
    • Packing
    • Loading & Unloading
    • Physical Fitness
    • Hand Tools & Power Tools
    • Machine Operation
    • Machine Calibration
    • Record Keeping
    • Creating and Reading Technical Documentation
    • Pallet Jack Operation
    • Forklift Operation
    • Communication Skills
    • Leadership
    • Safety Regulations
    • Team-Working Skills
    • Material Organization
    • Inventory Counting
    • Time Management

Expert Hint: Factories don’t only need manual workers. Some positions would benefit from showing IT skills on the resume. Others, might require administrative skills. Always make sure you double-check the required skillset.

    6. Package Your Worker Resume With Some Additional Sections

With all the previous sections, you’ve reached your resume quota. But why wouldn’t you exceed it? With 1-2 additional resume sections, your worker resume will reach 120% output.

Choose from these sections when writing:

Let relevance guide you. Don’t include anything that doesn’t correlate to the job position you’re applying for. And just because a pigeon can fly into the factory doesn’t mean birdwatching is an applicable hobby.

Refer to this example to see how:

    Sample Factory Worker Resume—Bonus Sections

    Good Example

    Certifications

    • Manufacturing Technician Certification, MSI, July 2022
    • OSHA Safety Certificate, Delaware Technical Community College, August 2018

    Licenses

    • Class A, B and C driver's license
    Bad Example

    Hobbies

    • Bird Watching
    • Fishing

    Certifications

    • Beer Judge Certification, BJCP, 2019

Being a beer judge is undeniably interesting, but bears no relevance to the job. And the first candidate shows only relevant stuff.

One more thing before wrapping up. Include a cover letter to your worker resume. The job ad might not even mention they require one, but in many cases, your application may be disregarded without it. If you haven’t previously written one, learn how to write a cover letter from our guide.

    Key Points

Here are the most important steps on the resume writing assembly line:

    • Clean up the resume format. Set proper font sizes, separate each section, add margins, and leave some white space showing.
    • Quantify your achievements. Don’t just list what you’re expected to do.
    • Show a tailored list of worker resume skills.
    • Add bonus sections on your resume for a worker job. They make you stand out like a new-generation machine.
    • Write a worker cover letter. If you’re looking for a factory job but haven’t worked in manufacturing before, create a cover letter with no experience.
