Bakers prepare pastries and other baked goods and may develop new recipes. They mix ingredients according to formulas, set up and operate machines, and decorate foods. Baker resumes usually include work in retail or commercial bakeries, grocery stores, wholesale stores, and restaurants.

Now, follow the below guidelines to organize an ideal baker resume:

1. Set The Best Format For Your Bakery Resume

Flour, yeast, water, salt, and sugar. Ignore any of these core ingredients and see your bread coming apart. You don’t want it.

It’s seemingly easy to break a resume structure, too. Header, summary, experience, education, skills, and added sections are your do-not-dare-to-omit ingredients. Skip any incremental resume sections and expect no feedback on your application.

Before you’ll prepare each section, choose a resume format. The reverse-chronological format is the one used more commonly. It orders your experience chronologically, going from the most recent to the oldest one.

Once you’re all set with your bakery resume format, consider a few formatting tips:

  • Apply one of the recommended resume fonts like Georgia or Helvetica in 10–12pt.
  • Put 1-inch resume margins on all sides, and do not overcrowd your resume.
  • Use single or 1.15 line spacing. Keep enough space between sections.
  • Craft a resume of the perfect length. One page is enough unless you’re rich in work experience.
  • Create a readable resume header with essential contact information. You want to be called after all.

In the end, consider using PDF or DOC format. Most recruiters prefer PDF as it keeps a resume structure in place on any device it is viewed.

2. Mold a Resume Summary/Objective For a Baker

According to the Occupational Outlook, a baker's occupation will experience an 8% change in employment in 2021–2031. Higher demand for bakery professionals doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a job, though.

There are many bakers out there looking for their ideal job. Y’know, the smell of buttered rolls, cakes with jam, mouth-watering donuts grabbed during lunchtime… What a sweet notion. Who wouldn’t want to become a working Cookie Monster?

To get a job, you must stand out among competitors and prove you’re no worse than Duff Goldman. You need a captivating resume summary to hit a hiring manager from the first time they see your resume.

And here’s how to get there:

  1. Pick an adjective that describes you best (attentive) and put it at the front.
  2. Include a job title (Baker) that you use.
  3. Summarize work experience that you already have (2+, 3+, 4+).
  4. Show off your intent toward a new job opportunity (supervise daily operations and utilize both technical and artistic skills).
  5. Mention 2 or 3 key professional achievements you’re proud of (received the Employee of the Month award 3 times during the employment period for outstanding artistry)
  6. Use power words to sound like a pro.

Study these examples:

At Marriott International, received Employee of the Month award 3 times during the employment period for outstanding artistry, time management, and communication skills. At Dunkin’ Donuts, realized over 30 catering orders, demonstrating exceptional manual dexterity.

Bad Example

Summary

Passionate Baker who loves to cook and test new recipes. Wants to join Sodexo to pursue career growth and skills development. Already had a few baking jobs, e.g., at Marriott International and Dunkin’ Donuts. Both helped me excel at baking and prepared me for future professional challenges.

As you see, the first example strictly follows every point mentioned higher. It is chock-full of helpful information that a recruiter is willing to know to be checking your resume further.

If it’s about the second one, it doesn’t reflect the ideal resume summary structure. It’s messy and operates in the first and third person mindlessly. Moreover, it doesn’t demonstrate any particular achievements, while employers are interested in them.

As an option, you can use a resume objective. This one works best for less experienced candidates who already have desired skills and relevant achievements.

Baker Resume Example—Objective

Good Example

Objective

Passionate Culinary Institute of America’s graduate with a Culinary Science Bachelor’s degree. Skilled in baking and applying a variety of decorating techniques. Gained +5000 followers on personal YouTube culinary channel after 2 months. Appeared in a morning local TV show, presenting own red velvet cake recipe. Seeking employment as a baker at Wild Oats Bakery & Café to utilize exceptional artisan skills and support daily café’s operations.

Bad Example

Objective

Graduated from Culinary Institute of America with a Culinary Science Bachelor’s degree. Mostly cooking independently and inventing new recipes following the most current culinary trends. Want to join Wild Oats Bakery & Cafe to show off my culinary skills and creativity.

You don’t necessarily need vast work experience to call yourself a baker. A resume objective is to focus on your former achievements no matter your career span. The first example excels at emphasizing a candidate’s significant accomplishments and strengths. Plus, it clearly states what a candidate can bring to the table.

The second one is too clichéd, while it has the potential to be attention-grabbing. If you’re inventing new recipes, why not share them with people on social media? If following culinary trends, why not brag about the most recent workshop you participated in?

3. Form Ideally-Shaped Job Descriptions and Skills Sections

Remember the first muffins you baked? Wasn’t it hard to estimate how much liquid to pour into forms so that the dough doesn’t grow out of them? It’s the same with the information that you enter into your resume. There should be neither too little nor too much of them.

Before summarizing your former work experience, remember that recruiters favor resumes that match job descriptions showcased in job postings. They want the dough to fit the mold.

Here’s how to achieve that:

  1. Study the job posting you want to reply to.
  2. Identify the essential resume skills desired by a company.
  3. Remind yourself when you’ve applied such skills and what you have achieved, thanks to them.
  4. Draft resume bullet points with your professional achievements backed up with concrete numbers.

  • Ordered food according to the demand. Always managed to execute on-time delivery.
  • Welcomed and acknowledged hotel guests professionally, leading to an increasing amount of positive feedback.

Key Achievement:

  • Was called Employee of the Month a couple of times thanks to impeccable skills and exceptional time management.

Can you differentiate them? While the good example provides solid achievements (with numbers as proof), the bad one is too generic. It looks like someone has written it just to get it out of the way as soon as possible.

Now that it’s clean and clear, let’s move to the list of skills for a baker.

What are the skills needed by bakers?

4. Hone the Education Section in Your Baker Resume

Culinary art is lifelong learning. You can be a bona fide expert, but you might quickly be out of the loop if you’re not chasing the latest industry novelties and baking trends.

Education is key. That’s why you need to treat an education section like the fanciest Parisian bagel that lands on a table. It should be sophisticated yet easily digestible.

Check these examples:

When listing your education experience, remember to put a degree, a university name, and studying dates on separate lines. You can also add 2 or 3 bullets describing your activities while studying.

5. Put a Glaze On Your Resume With Added Sections

Cinnamon rolls are good whichever way you make them, aren’t they? But pour heavy cream over them before baking and get them even better. Sooo rich and gooey. Mmm. Did you know this trick? A simple addition can enhance your recipe.

Your resume might seem decent, too. Ultimately, you’ve gone through all critical sections and want nothing but to end it. But here’s the last thing to make your resume even more appealing—added sections. Of course, you can skip it, but would you leave a plain cake without a glaze or topping?

Top up a bakery resume with at least 2 extra sections:
