How to Write a Cover Letter for Social Media Jobs


1. Use the Right Format on Your Social Media Cover Letter


As a social media post, your cover letter must look appealing. Thankfully, there is a set of rules regarding business cover letter formatting.


Here are the key rules for formatting your cover letter:


  • Align every paragraph to the left.
  • Use 1-inch margins on all sides of your document.
  • Opt for an easy-to-read font—you can’t go wrong with Arial or Helvetica. For cohesive branding, use the same font as on your resume. 
  • Leave line spacing at 1–1.15. 
  • Make a header identical to the one you’ve used on your resume. 
  • Keep it brief: one page is the best length for a cover letter

2. Introduce Your Candidature in the Opening Paragraph


An excellent social media post is targeted to a clearly defined audience. The same rule applies to your social media cover letter. 


Make sure the recruiter knows right from the first sentence that they’rereading something relevant to them. 


First, address the cover letter directly to the person handling recruitment for your role. Use a greeting that mentions them by name, e.g., Dear Ms Smith or Dear Cynthia. If the job ad doesn’t mention the name of the recruiter, check the company’s social media (ha!) or website, or simply contact them and ask. 


Next, when you start the cover letter, state the job you’re interested in. Then, briefly mention the skills and experience that make you the perfect candidate for the position. Say just enough to capture the reader’s attention—you’ll go into more detail in the next paragraph. 

Expert Hint: If you’re writing a cover letter with no work experience, you can replace career accomplishments with academic ones, or with relevant achievements from other experience sources like internships or volunteering.

3. Describe Your Greatest Strengths in the Second Paragraph


Before writing your second paragraph, go back to the job ad. Take note of the requirements and skills needed for the role. 


Then, think of times from your previous gigs where you’ve impressed your supervisor with these exact skills. Describe your most relevant accomplishments from previous jobs—you can use bullet points for brevity and visual effect.
