Raymond Johnson

Store Manager

AH Stores

4845 Francis Mine

Oregon City, OR

Dear Raymond,

I’m excited to have come across a job opening for a cashier at the local branch of AH Stores. I’m eager to apply my customer service and communication skills to provide dedicated guest service and efficient check-out. In my previous position at Jumbo Supermarket, I increased the upsell of our loyalty program by 25% within my first year.

To become a successful cashier, one must showcase certain character traits and professional experience. To meet demanding goals, we need to maintain a polite attitude, display product knowledge, and the have the ability to quickly and accurately perform arithmetic calculations. I believe I had a chance to showcase these traits:

  • Customer service. Maintained high customer satisfaction scores (95%+) during my previous employment and was voted The Most Friendly Employee for three quarters straight.
  • Upsell. Promoted the company’s loyalty program and increased the total number of clients by 25% in the first year at the company.
  • POS. Ran POS with over 150 transactions per day and 100% accuracy across 3 years.

AH Stores are widely known for its sustainable products and environmentally aware promotional campaigns. I was particularly impressed by the recent Eco Picnic your store held for children and families. Organizing such an event shows the deep commitment you have toward the well-being of our community. I would love to become a part of such an open and conscious team.

Can we arrange a face-to-face meeting where we can discuss how I could help AH Stores achieve its goals?

Best regards,

Jeremy Owens

How to Write a Cover Letter for Cashier Jobs

1. Format Your Cashier Cover Letter Correctly

A good store plan makes it easy for customers to find what they need. A good cover letter format makes it easy for the hiring manager to spot all the relevant information and increases your chances of getting hired.

Here are the key rules for formatting your cover letter:

  • Align every paragraph to the left and don’t justify the text.
  • Apply 1-inch margins on all sides of your cover letter.
  • Use an easy-to-read font. Arial, Verdana, or Times New Roman are always a good idea.
  • Make your cover letter easy on the eyes and use 1.15 line spacing.
  • Include only the necessary information and write a one-page cover letter.
  • Write an identical header to the one you’ve written on your resume. State your name, job title, and contact details.

Double your impact with a matching resume and cover letter combo. Use our cover letter generator and make your application documents pop out.

2. Introduce Yourself and The Role in Which You’re Interested

What do good cashiers do when a customer enters the shop? They greet them. That’s exactly what you should do when starting your cashier cover letter.

Firstly, address the hiring manager by name. It will show you took the time and conducted thorough research of the company where you want to work. Secondly, to properly start the cover letter, clearly state the job you’re interested in and mention the skills and experience that make you the perfect match.

3. Highlight Your Achievements and Skills

The second paragraph of a cashier's cover letter should focus on the skills and requirements needed for the job.

Read the posting carefully and highlight the requirements and skills you have to show to succeed. Then, give examples from the past when you’ve applied those skills and successfully handled the challenge. Throw in a number or two to show how your actions influence the business side of the operation.

4. Explain Why You Want to Work for This Particular Store or Company

Now it’s time to say something nice about your future employer. They are looking for someone who will help them grow their business. But they also want an employee who will become a part of the team and would like to stay longer with the company.

Explain why you’ve chosen to apply for this specific position. What makes them unique?

5. Finish with a Call to Action and a Formal Signature

Write a convincing and bold end to your cover letter. Show them that you care. Directly ask for an in-person or online meeting so that you can talk about your involvement some more.

After the call-to-action, write a closing statement (such as “best regards” or “sincerely”), followed by your name. The cherry on the top of your cashier cover letter can be a P.S. where you add one more argument in your favor.
