Get the grill fired up.

1. Use a Professional CV Format

In the right light, even a week-old Big Mac looks appetising. Appearance is key, and the fast food CV is no different. Appear professional and organised right off the bat to increase the chances of your CV being picked out of the pile.

Here’s the how to format your CV:

Fast Food CV Format

  • If you have work experience with more than one employer, list the most recent job first, in the so-called reverse-chronological CV format.
  • Pick a sensible font for your CV No need to get too creative with this one. Calibri or Arial in 10–12pt works well.
  • Set 1-inch margins for your CV, and space sections out so that they’re easier to read.
  • Wondering if 1-page CV is enough? Sure it is.
  • Order the sections on your CV like this: Header, Objective or Summary, Experience, Education, and “Additional.”
  • Print or save your CV as a PDFto protect the layout. Of course, if asked for an MS Word document or something exotic, send that.

Alright, we got the prep done, the grills are hot, let’s start assembly.

2. Write a Tantalising Fast Food CV Summary or Objective

When someone’s business is fast food, they want fast workers. Quickly get across exactly what you can do for them by writing a smart CV summary. Before getting started, search the job ad for specific skills and characteristics they’re looking for. These will be your CV keywords. Not only will they be well-received by the hiring manager, but will also help your CV be singled out by ATS software many companies use to weed out undesirable candidates.

  • Begin with an adjective, like friendly, or conscientious, your job title (if any), and years of experience.
  • Next, describe using numbers and accomplishments how well you performed the functions of the job.
  • Lastly, call out your target employer by name and explain how you can add value by working for them.

Fast Food CV Summary—Example

Good Example
Friendly and presentable crew member with 3+ years of experience in dynamic kitchen environments. Able to multitask and fulfil up to 10 orders at once in a timely manner. Responsibly handled £5,000+ cash daily, cashing out the register every £1,000. Maintained 100% cash drawer accuracy. Seeking to leverage my skills and be an effective addition to the team at GrabEatGo.
Bad Example
Experienced fast food worker serving American cuisine at McDonald’s. Reliable, organised, and detail-oriented. Great at multitasking, cashing out, and being personable and likeable. Able to start as soon as possible to pay for my car.

See how that works? The first example makes you sound destined for greatness, while the second one—well, let’s just say you wouldn’t get a call—ever.

But wait—

There’s a pretty good chance the only time you’ve done any food prep for someone other than yourself was that one time at a backyard BBQ.

What you need is to write a first time CV with no experience that includes a CV objective (instead of a summary).

Fast Food CV Objective—Example

Good Example
Conscientious and reliable high-school graduate with a friendly disposition and energetic personality. Eager to join the GrabEatGo team to provide customers with fast, excellent service.
Bad Example
Responsible high-school graduate with attention to detail. Seeking to prove great food-prep abilities in the fast food environment. Ready to start immediately.

Expert Hint: How to write a CV profile? It is best to do this once you have completed the other sections of your fast food CV.

3. Write a Tasty Fast Food Job Description and Skills

Yes, you flip burgers. You prepare food and take orders. They know that. Many fast food CVs your employer will receive will just rattle off a list of duties the applicants performed. Do one better, and quantify your performance into numbers.

Make up to 6 bullet points containing various metrics and accomplishments that prove your suitability to the new role. Start them with action words, or power words, like boosted, saved, reorganised.
